George John Scipio Africanus is a play for Key Stage Two primary school children. It was one of two plays commissioned with MLA funding to introduce primary school children to the work of Wolverhampton City Archives.
The play was performed in the Roccoco Room of the Molineux Hotel, the building which is now the home of Wolverhampton City Archives. The action of the play is set in the very same room in the 1780s.
The play shows George John Scipio Africanus, who was a servant or slave of the wealthy Molineux family in the 1780s, and Polly Povey, a (fictional) maid, as George prepares to leave for Nottingham, where he would become a successful brass founder.
The video was filmed at the dress rehearsal. It was taken by Tony Stamp.
